The UN would handle his evacuation following all protocols, senior officials say.
Former Karnataka IPS officer Savita Hande, currently senior United Nations security officer in Kabul, is in a safe area and assisting in the evacuation, a senior police officer said on Saturday.
IPS officer in 1990 and teammate of ADGP Railways Bhaskar Rao and Town Police Commissioner Kamal Pant, she was deployed to Kosovo in 2000 after being relieved of her duties and since then has been interested at the service of the United Nations.
Senior officials who contacted her said the UN would deal with her evacuation following all protocols.
Meanwhile, two Karnataka people stranded in Afghanistan will be airlifted from Kabul. They are expected to arrive in the state on Sunday, according to sources from the state’s Interior Ministry. These are the only two people who have contacted the control room established by the state government, one is a resident of Mangaluru and the other is from Tirthhalli.
IPS Officer Umesh Kumar, ADGP, CID, who has been appointed as the nodal officer for coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MEA), has been in constant contact with the MEA to identify persons of the state.
