On Monday, IPS Senior Officer Anish Dayal Singh took office as the new Director General (DG) of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police which guards the 3,488 km Line of Effective Control with China.
The 1988 Group officer of the Manipur cadre was handed over the ceremonial baton by his group mate SL Thaosen who has held the additional charge of the mountain warfare trained force of around 90,000 men since August after Sanjay Arora was appointed Delhi Police Commissioner.
Before taking charge of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police Headquarters at Lodhi Road, Singh was given a guard of honor after which senior officers briefed him on the operations and deployment of the force.
Singh, who belongs to the Manipur cadre, is the 32nd DG of the ITBP and served as the Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau where he handled several sensitive assignments.
The Cabinet Appointments Committee (ACC) headed by the Prime Minister had issued the order on October 1 to appoint Singh, who is in office until December 2024.
Thaosen, by the same order, was named the new DG of the CRPF. The Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from Madhya Pradesh served as DG of SSB with the additional charge of ITBP.
An order issued by the Union Home Office on Monday also gave the additional charge of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) to Singh “until the appointment and accession of the regular incumbent or until further orders , whichever comes first”.
The ITBP is primarily responsible for guarding the 3,488 km stretch of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China, in addition to carrying out various functions in the field of the country’s internal security.
